Safety Officer
Job Summary:
- the Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the company’s facilities and assets. This role requires vigilance, effective communication, and an understanding of industrial safety protocols. The officer will monitor and respond to safety incidents, provide assistance during emergencies, and work closely with management to uphold safety standards.
Working Conditions:
- The position involves working in both office and field environments. Additionally, the public safety officer may be required to work non-standard hours in response to emergencies or operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing advice and instructions on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery, etc.)
- Testing equipment to ensure that it meets regulatory guidelines
- Conducting a daily checklist for all safety-related items (extinguisher, FM200, ......)
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations specific to liquid and dry bulk terminal operations.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analysis across terminal facilities.
- Monitor the handling, storage, and transfer of hazardous materials to prevent spills, leaks, and other safety incidents.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols for terminal personnel, truck drivers, and vessel operators.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct regular emergency response drills, including fire safety, chemical spill containment, and evacuation procedures.
- Ensure proper usage and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear.
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies to maintain compliance with local, national, and industry-specific safety regulations.
- Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of safety reports, incident logs, and compliance documentation.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).
- Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH) is highly desirable.
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer in an industrial setting, preferably in bulk liquid and dry cargo terminals, ports, or logistics operations.
- Strong understanding of hazardous material handling, spill prevention, and environmental safety protocols.
- Familiarity with maritime and terminal safety regulations, including ISGOTT, MARPOL, and OSHA standards.
- Excellent risk assessment and incident investigation skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities to enforce safety culture among teams.
- Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure or emergency situations.
- Proficiency in safety reporting software and MS Office tools.
- Willingness to work in a shift-based or on-call capacity as per terminal operational needs
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the same filed.
