MV. Afros

Jordan Industrial Ports Company received the ship "MV Afros", which is the first ship in the world of dry bulk carriers, equipped with four ANEMOI rotary sails. The operation of the sails contributed to reducing emissions and fuel by 12.5%. That’s equivalent to 73 tons of fuel saved and reduced carbon emissions by 235 tons per trip.

Rotor Sails systems in ships are scientifically proven technologies in energy conservation as they harness wind to provide additional propulsion to ships, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Eng. Khaled Shihadeh, General Manager of the Jordan Industrial Ports Company, highlighted during the meeting with the Master of the ship the interest of JIPC - an environmentally friendly and "ECOPORT SLC” certified port - to receive such ships, which are concerned with the sustainability of the planet and the creation of its sources for future generations and within the global interest in rationalizing energy consumption as a basic plan for the new millennium.
Cpt. Georgios Moromalos, the Master of the ship took the initiative for a technical briefing on the mechanism of sails and how they contribute to reducing fuel consumption.
The JIPC team was given an introductory tour of the ship's facilities and systems and has been informed about, how the ship's results report in terms of preserving the environment and rationalizing fuel consumption.

The meeting was attended by the Terminal Manager, Eng. Heike Bethge, the Operation Manager, Eng. Hamza Al-Qawasmeh, the HSSE Manager, Mr. Ahmad Al-Halman, in addition to the ship's agent Silk Waves Company and a group of the JIPC’s operations team.
